In 1996 Monica Nador left a successful career as a fine artist to move to the Jardim Miriam favela in São Paulo. Fueled by a desire to use her talents to better the community, she began painting the facades of local homes with colorful murals. Soon, she was teaching curious neighbors her stenciling technique so they, too, could reclaim and improve their surroundings. What you see here is an adaptation of one of her grand-scale works of art, recast as breezy bungalow handcrafted of fine cotton and natural wood, festooned in dancing tassels.
